NASA released a video of the longest flight over Mars. Look how it was

During the flight, which took place on April 8, Ingenuity set several records at once: it was the most

a long flight that was carried out with the mosthigh speed. The helicopter flew a distance of 704 m at a speed of 5.5 m/s (about 20 km/h). A black and white navigation camera installed on the bottom of the device recorded the flight.

The flight is carried out at a height of about 10 meters.Having risen to the desired level, the helicopter heads southwest and accelerates to maximum speed in less than 3 seconds. During this flight, the helicopter flies over a group of sand ripples and then, around the middle of the video, over several rocky fields. Ingenuity is an autonomous vehicle, so it finds a suitable place to land on its own and lands.

Video recording starts one second after the startflight. This is enough time to rise to a height at which the dust that has risen during takeoff will not pose a danger to the navigation camera. In addition, the video speed has been increased by about 5 times for better viewing experience.

The atmosphere on Mars is very different fromterrestrial. The density of the atmosphere on the red planet is almost two orders of magnitude lower. One of the key tasks of the Ingenuity drone is to test the possibility of flying unmanned vehicles in a rarefied atmosphere. This will allow the use of drones for reconnaissance of the area and the study of hard-to-reach places, such as rocks or depressions.
