New Microsoft Outlook Lite app for Android coming in July

Microsoft is developing a smaller, faster mobile email clientOutlook Lite for Android.Giant

described the app in detail while using the Microsoft 365 roadmap.There he describesOutlook Lite as "an Android application that delivers the core benefits of Outlook in a smaller, high-performance size for low-end devices on any network."

As you can see from the roadmap, Outlook Lite will be available to the world this month.ZDNet reports that Outlook Lite already exists in several countries, so Microsoft seems to be preparingMicrosoft's own documentation for Outlook Lite suggests that the client will be able toadd only Outlook, Hotmail, Live, and MSV accounts – there will be no support for work or school accounts.

Meta was one of the first major developersreleasing a lightweight version of their original Facebook app for Android. Facebook Lite launched in 2015 at just 1MB in size and was aimed directly at emerging markets. Google followed this with its line of lightweight apps for Android Go, including Gmail Go in 2018.

Microsoft is also testingOutlook for Windows programs. The new application is currently in testing and is based on Outlook on the web. The client will replace Outlook for Windows in the coming years.
