New passages from the Book of the Dead found in Egypt

Archaeologists have discovered a 16-meter-long papyrus in Egypt that contained passages from the Book of the Dead.

A document that is more than 2 000 years old,found in a tomb south of the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara. This is the oldest surviving large stone building in the world. Built by the architect Imhotep in Saqqara for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser around 2650 BC.

There are many texts from the Book of the Dead, and analysisnew artifacts will shed light on ancient Egyptian funerary traditions. According to the official statement, the conservation work has already been completed, and the text from the papyrus has begun to be translated.

This is the first complete papyrus discovered at Saqqarafor more than 100 years, said Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The Book of the Dead is the modern name for a series of texts that the Egyptians believed would help the dead navigate the underworld. They were widely used during the New Kingdom, from about 1550 BC. to 1070 BC
