New self-driving vans predict the actions of pedestrians and drivers

Volkswagen and Argo AI have created a model of an unmanned minibus ID Buzz with six lidars, 11 radars and 14

cameras: the bus can detect an obstacle at a distance of 400 m and monitor everything that happens around, as well as predict the actions of pedestrians, cyclists and cars.

Bus trials began in Germany and the USA, and on a 90,000 m² indoor field near Munich Airport. Testing on Hamburg roads is expected to begin in a few months.

It is planned that by 2025 buses will be able to provide commercial services for the transportation of goods and passengers in automatic mode.

VW first unveiled the ID Buzz concept back in 2017year and has been testing its development ever since. In July 2021, Argo AI and Ford announced the launch of at least 1,000 self-driving Lyft taxis in five years in Miami and Austin.
