New tests identify iota and lambda strains of COVID-19 in 20 minutes

The head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova said that in Russia

developed rapid test systems to detect potentially dangerous strains of a new type of coronavirus.

This development is part of the country's epidemiological monitoring system. The main task was to create new fast test systems to replace those that appeared in March-May 2020.

As the head of the FMBA noted, the country also has test systems that determine the delta and delta plus strains of coronavirus.

It is very important that there are fast test systemsto identify specific lines of the virus, including the latter - delta, delta plus. Now there are tests for iota, lambda and other potentially dangerous lines that can enter our territory.

Skvortsova added that in Russia it is important to create other tests that can identify potentially dangerous mutations of the coronavirus for Russia.

The iota mutation was identified in the United States in November 2020, andlambda strain in Peru in 2020. According to scientists from Japan, lambda can hide from neutralizing antibodies and spreads faster than others. The WHO is still studying this information.
