The researchers added that most peopleare familiar with computed tomography from medicine: a part of the human body is X-rayed from all sides, then a three-dimensional visualization is calculated, on the basis of which any images for diagnosis can be created. But this method is also used for material control analysis or for the development of new compounds.
Two years ago, the same team received a record200 tomograms per second, calling this method the fastest tomoscopy. They achieved a result of 1,000 tomograms per second without degrading other parameters of the microscope: it still has very good resolution, and the recording time can be up to several minutes.

The team showed the new possibilities of tomoscopy ona few examples. Their images show the combustion process, the formation of dendrites during the solidification of casting alloys, or the appearance of bubbles in metal foam. These are lightweight materials that can be used to build new cars.
“This method allows us to study in detail any processes in materials. Many research groups and industry representatives have been waiting for this opportunity, ”said Garcia Moreno.
