The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigating after a number of complaints.

Subsidiary of General Motors has 242 carsCruise (Chevrolet Bolt modification), which perform passenger transportation without a driver. NHTSA says the investigation covers all vehicles. It is possible that in the near future Cruise will have to pause the service and recall vehicles to update driver assistance systems.
San Francisco authorities sent to NHTSA in Septembera letter requesting an investigation into the situation as self-driving taxis began to suddenly stop, creating a risk of accidents on the roads. Cars blocked traffic and interfered. Despite everything, the city authorities do not want to completely abandon the service of unmanned passenger transportation.
It is worth noting that the NHTSA had complaints aboutCruise cars long before they suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. In one incident in April of this year, a company car “ran away” from a police officer when he approached it. In the summer, several cars gathered on the same street and blocked traffic.
