What is known
The plaintiff speaks on the condition of anonymity under the name“Jane Do”, but is described as Asian. She claims that she started working for Niantic in February 2020 with a salary of $70,000. Later that year, her salary was raised to about $84,000, but in 2021, she learned that her male co-worker was making more money despite having a lesser title and responsibilities.
According to the statement, in 2022 she was paidabout $105,000 a year, while her male counterpart, who had a lower position, received $127,000 a year. In the spring of 2023, her salary was raised to $115,000 a year, which is still less than her colleague. It was also during this time that she noticed that the pay range for her position, which was published by Niantic in 2023, was $10,000 lower than her current salary.
The plaintiff discussed her issues with other employees, and sexism and unequal pay were also discussed in a women's resource group called the Wolfpack.
However, when she expressed her concernsDirector of Equity and Inclusion and Head of Human Resources at Niantic, she was made clear that her complaints were not taken seriously and that concerns about sexism or gender bias in the workplace should not be raised. Also in the meetings, supervisors stated that her evaluation of work was negative due to her discussing problems with colleagues. According to the statement, the plaintiff immediately stopped participating in the Wolfpack group because she was afraid that this might negatively affect the members of the group or herself.
Niantic has not yet commented on the situation.
