Northrop Grumman installs MESA sensor on British E-7 Wedgetail aircraft

The American company Northrop Grumman began to equip British aircraft with an aviation complex with an MESA sensor

E-7 Wedgetail radio surveillance and guidance.

Press office of the Royal Air ForceThe UK said the installation of a multi-purpose electronically scanned sensor is a demonstration of progress towards "phenomenal capabilities" of the aircraft. The MESA sensor is mounted in a distinctive fin located at the back of the aircraft's spine.

The multi-purpose radar system allowsaircraft to detect and identify targets at long distances. The crew will receive enhanced capabilities for tracking sea and air objects.

Aircraft E-7 Wedgetail is in service with the 8thAir Force Squadron stationed at Lossiemouth Air Force Base of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. In the future, Northrop Grumman will equip two more aircraft with the MESA multipurpose sensor.
