Notre Dame Cathedral will be able to be restored in detail thanks to Assassin's Creed: Unity

The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral destroyed the roof, woodwork and collapsed the spire, but the structure

the buildings were saved. Now the authorities are planning to restore the building, and not only historians, but also video game developers will be able to help with this.

What is known

For the reconstruction of the cathedral, the authorities will needphotographs of the building and documentation, but modern technology can offer more. For example, historian Andrew Tallon made a 3D model of the cathedral using laser scanners. In addition, Tallon took spherical panoramic photographs, which helped him create detailed photographs of the cathedral.

Ubisoft will also help with the reconstruction.During the development of Assassin's Creed: Unity, designer Carolyn Meeuss spent two years studying photographs of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris to create a detailed model of the building in the game. Together with the artists, she tried to recreate the cathedral down to the brick, which may be useful in connection with recent events.

“Level designer Miuss literally spent yearsfussing over the details of the building. She looked at photographs to get the architecture right and worked with texture artists to make sure every brick was how it was supposed to be,” writes The Verge.
