Nvidia unveils UK's most powerful supercomputer

The American company Nvidia announced plans to create a supercomputer worth $52 million. This news

appeared shortly after buying rival Arm for $40 billion. They will work together on the device.

Supercomputer "Cambridge-1" will be designedfor research in artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. According to journalists, its concept will be presented by the founder and CEO of Nvidia Jensen Huang at the GTC 2020 conference.

The supercomputer is expected to beThe Cambridge-1 will be an NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD system capable of delivering over 400 petaflops of performance and 8 petaflops of Linpack performance, placing it 29th in the latest TOP500 of the world's most powerful supercomputers.

“Solving the world's most pressing challenges inhealthcare requires enormous amounts of powerful computing resources and artificial intelligence capabilities. Supercomputer «Cambridge-1» will serve as an innovation hub for the UK and continue the pioneering work being done by the UK's researchers in future medicine and drug discovery."

A supercomputer that can be customizedwithin a few weeks, will be powered by 80 Nvidia systems that are interconnected.  When asked whether Nvidia expects to receive any income from Cambridge-1, the company noted that this is “a non-commercial project.”

The company plans to allocate resources to "Cambridge-1"in four areas: industry research, empowering universities with computing power, medical AI startups, and education for future AI scientists.
