The People's Liberation Army of China has officially published information on the speed of a hypersonic missile
What is known
China, like the United States, is working onair-, ground- and ship-based hypersonic weapons. YJ-21 belongs to the latter type. According to the People's Liberation Army of China, the Chinese missile can reach speeds 10 times the speed of sound - 12,348 km/h (Mach 10).
The military also claims that nonethe existing shipborne air defense system is not currently capable of intercepting the YJ-21. The missile will be integrated into the Type 055 battlecruisers, which have 128 vertical launch cells, a 130mm H/PJ-38 gun, Yu-8 anti-submarine missiles and Yu-7 light torpedoes.
