Olaf Scholz does not approve of the sale of Leopard 2A7, Leopard 1 and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, despite two contracts worth almost €2 billion

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not want to approve the sale of Leopard tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.

The Federal Chancellor does not approve the sale to Ukrainetanks Leopard 2A7, Leopard 1 and infantry fighting vehicles Marder. It is reported by Die Welt. According to the German publication, in a conversation with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Scholz showed no desire to change his position regarding the supply of weapons.

Interestingly, the German companies themselves offeredUkraine to purchase equipment. In particular, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann announced its readiness to sell 100 Leopard 2A7 tanks along with spare parts and additional equipment. The cost of the contract would be €1.55 billion. Moreover, the first tank would be delivered to Ukraine only three years after the signing of the contract, and the last more than five years later.

In addition, Rheinmetall offered Ukraine 100Marder infantry fighting vehicles and 88 Leopard 1 main tanks with €268 million worth of ammunition. Rheinmetall even managed to apply for export, but Olaf Scholz did not respond to her. The interlocutor of Die Welt states that Ukraine does not understand why the Federal Chancellor refuses to accept Rheinmetall's application for the export of Marder infantry fighting vehicles.
