T-Mobile has already closed its sister network Sprint 3GCDMA. The company introduced a new technology called Voice over 5G New Radio (VoNR). The carrier claims that it provides faster call set-up times and better call quality than 4G Voice over LTE, or VoLTE.

T-Mobile will begin shutting down its 3G networks in July, anddevices that do not support at least VoLTE will lose the ability to make voice calls. This won't even work for emergency calls. However, it will be possible to make calls through applications via Wi-Fi.

Google has recommended that users upgrade to a new phone. This applies to Pixel 1 and Pixel 2 owners.
