The OnePlus brand was born with very simplepositioning: flagships, but cheap. Over time, apparently, debit and credit ceased to converge, and the assortment was divided into two parts: in one, flagships, and in the other, affordable models (I mean the Nord series). But this summer, the company introduced a device that is conceptually similar to its very first smartphones. OnePlus 10T (aka Ace Pro) received the top Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but you can order it from China in the region of 30-32 thousand rubles (as of the end of November 2022). What is it - a return to basics or just a flagship in which they saved on every little thing?

Equipment and design
OnePlus 10T hits the buyer's desk ina bright red rubberized box that would stand out coolly from the rest if the average buyer had a lot of smartphone boxes. Inside: the smartphone itself, documentation, SIM needle, stickers, USB cable (Type-C-Type-C) and 160-W charger. There is no cover; but if you buy “Chinese” OnePlus Ace Pro, then there will be a case. As usual, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the kit does not include accessories for connecting a smartphone to a standard USB port; Don’t rush to throw away the cable from your old smartphone.
The smartphone is available in two colors - greenand black (the Ace Pro also has a brownish Genshin Impact Edition). I have not seen the green version live, but the black one looks very interesting. The back is glass, but it is not a simple matte and glossy glass, but processed in some very tricky way and therefore similar to the touch of a fabric. Yes, and this glass looks more like satin than like glass. In general, it’s very cool, and OnePlus designers definitely like it for this find. And then a dislike - why are the ends plastic?
The location of the elements on the body is maximumstandard. Bottom tray for two nano-SIM (no microSD), microphone, USB Type-C port and speaker; right power button; on top of the microphone and the second speaker output; volume rocker on the left. Unfortunately, there is no sound mode switch in this smartphone. But the stereo is cool - the upper speaker is almost as good as the lower one in terms of sound quality. I also praise the linear vibration motor: the tactile feedback is very realistic and only slightly inferior to what Xiaomi does in its flagships.
The OnePlus 10T screen has a resolution of 2412x1080pixels with a diagonal of 6.7″, the aspect ratio is 20.1:9. It may seem a little unconventional, but the green factory uses such displays all the time (see OnePlus 10R, Realme 8i, OPPO Reno8 Pro+, Realme 9 Pro, OPPO A1 Pro, OPPO Reno9 Pro, Realme 10 Pro+…). The display is generally good: bright, contrasty, and very energy efficient. But PWM… Above 100% at brightness below 50%! There is no DC Dimming, so you can’t hide anywhere from this flickering.
The screen frequency is 120 Hz, there are two modes:60 and 120. But “120” - it’s more likely “auto”, because many applications and games run at 60, if you don’t touch the screen it becomes 60, when you open the keyboard it becomes 60, and after a little “warm-up” many applications also switch to 60. With the touchscreen, the situation is more stable: it is 120 Hz everywhere, but in games, when a special setting is enabled, it is 360 Hz.
Software
OnePlus 10T comes with OxygenOS firmware, which the fans of the brand managed to defend against the leadership of the "green factory". However, if you want a free case and buy Ace Pro, ColorOS will be at your disposal. However, since the phones are identical in hardware, you can easily flash a 10T to an Ace Pro and/or vice versa. But I tested the global model with its native global firmware, and the impressions are pleasant.
If for a while OxygenOS is rapidlyturned into ColorOS, now the firmware has begun to diverge again. Of the interesting Vanplas chips, I’ll note the Shelf menu (reminiscent of the widget screen from iOS, but contains information selected by OnePlus) and the Work / Life Balance function, which allows you to set different notification settings based on the time of day. For example, so that notifications from games do not come during the day, and messages from Slack in the evening and in the morning. By the way, does anyone else use Slack?
Cameras
The OnePlus 10T trio of cameras is painfully familiar to us:50 MP base with OIS (IMX766), 8 MP wide without autofocus (OV08D) and 2 MP macro plug (OV02B). Put in the flagship cameras from last year's own middle peasants? We can, we can, we practice. We look at photo examples:
The main camera 10T shoots well, and notonly simple scenes with bright lighting, but also night scenes. Not a flagship, of course, level, but a worthy phone in the region of 30-35 thousand rubles, which our hero is. Shirik copes with his only job - to shoot landscape shots - but you should not expect any masterpieces from him. I don’t even want to talk seriously about the macro camera.

As for the video part, the situation is the same - the main cameracan write very good video at 2160p@60fps. With good sound, with quick focus, with high-quality hybrid stabilization. Sometimes he makes mistakes in colors, but without a direct comparison it will not be noticeable. But the width with its 1080p@30fps is not particularly interesting. But you can write a video, and it's good. And even switching between cameras while shooting in this mode was delivered. The front camera of the OnePlus 10T has a resolution of 16 MP and is based on the ancient Samsung 3P9 sensor, which, for example, was used in the width of the Samsung Galaxy S10. Four years ago! But, nevertheless, the selfies are cool. There is HDR here, and the aperture is narrow enough not to fall out of focus all the time, so no problem.
Performance and tests
OnePlus 10T's hardware foundation is the best at the momentthe announcement of a chipset for smartphones Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Well, or not the best if you are a fan of the iPhone or MediaTek, but definitely one of the best - and definitely better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. In the CPU Throttling Test, the smartphone draws a gentle ladder, which never leaves the yellow-green zone even by the end of the test; however, this is a snag: already at the beginning of the test, the hardware gives out around 350 GIPS, although usually smartphones on 8+ Gen 1 break through the mark of 400 GIPS. So, we can say that the smartphone throttles in advance, without waiting for heating.
With the 3DMark graphics test, the situation is even morestrange: in normal mode, Zhenya got an almost even line, but my phone simply overheated at the seventeenth minute of the test, reset the brightness to the minimum, closed the benchmark and for some reason forbade turning on the flashlight. In performance mode, the heating turned out to be weaker, the phone survived until the end of the test, but showed a 40% drop in performance by the seventh minute of the test. Well, that's it.
But no matter what the benchmarks show, play onThe OnePlus 10T is still great. Yes, if you are a super-demanding gamer and want a stable 60 fps at maximum in Genshin Impact, then look for something else (Legion, for example). But even here it is quite possible to play at maximum speeds - there are drawdowns, but not critical. After 20 minutes of play, the screen brightness did not decrease, the case became only a little warm, and the fps remained practically unchanged. True, it should be noted that 120 Hz stop working under heating - so if you play Genshin Impact a little, then then Brawl Stars will be at 60 fps. Unpleasant, but not critical.
The capacity of the built-in battery is 4800mAh There could be more, but part of the volume of the case was sacrificed for the sake of ultra-fast charging. She is really chic here - the complete unit charges from 2% to hundreds in 18 minutes. At the same time, only 6 minutes are enough to charge the smartphone halfway – and only then some security mechanisms are activated, and the power is reduced. And it is also reduced when charged from a 110/127-V outlet (standard in the US, Canada, Central America, Suriname and Japan); the block is configured in such a way that it receives only 125 watts from 110/127 V.
And how does it break down? Depends on the scenario. When showing videos from YouTube - minus 5% per hour. In browsing - minus 14% per hour (opened a random Wikipedia page every 6 seconds using an autoclicker). In the game (SuperTuxKart) - minus 26% per hour. That is, on a full charge, you can either watch a video for 20 hours, or sit on the Web for seven hours, or play a little less than four hours. After these three hour tests, I went to drive benchmarks, and after the third test the phone was discharged, having by this moment 4.5 hours of screen. But it was an insane amount of work on my part - and with normal use, you will get around 6-7 hours on a single charge.
Conclusions
OnePlus 10T is a good killer phoneflagships." Yes, there are far from top-end cameras (although the base with the IMX766 inside shoots great) and a plastic frame, and the chipset is implemented somehow indistinctly. But there are cool materials on the back, good software (not counting autohertz algorithms) and very fast charging. Of course, before buying, you need to look at other representatives of the genre (Xiaomi 12T Pro, Realme GT2 MEE, Lenovo Legion Y70), but the 10T will not be a disappointment if you choose it.
