OnePlus Nord 5G: reimagining mid-range smartphones

OnePlus Nord 5G review

After numerous leaks and a fairly successful marketing campaign, it's finally

The long-awaited budget phone from OnePlus has appeared - this is the new OnePlus Nord. This is the first model from the new line, which the manufacturer focuses on ordinary users, and not on those who want tothe fastest and most powerful Android phone.Change the way you look at mid-range phones.

Design

On the outside, the OnePlus Nord is both familiar and different. At the front, the curved-edge display has been replaced by a flat one, and many OnePlus fans would love to see that.

There is still a hole in the upper left corner, inwhich houses two sensors. The tablet shape is very similar to the Galaxy S10 +. For some, the secondary camera is not worth the aesthetic sacrifice that comes with it, but other users may well ignore the enlarged aperture if the cameras are of good quality (we'll talk about them later).

At the back we have a camera module in whichplaced four sensors and not only. Its shape is similar to what we've seen on most other OnePlus phones, with the exception of the 7T. On the Nord, however, the entire build is tilted into a corner, making sure the budget OnePlus isn't mistaken for one of the more expensive models.

Specifications

The OnePlus Nord is powered by one of this year's most popular chips, the Snapdragon 765G fromby Qualcomm. This is the choiceallows you to provide 5G capabilities and good performance at a lower cost.

In almost all use casesThe Snapdragon 765G paired with OxygenOS, OnePlus' Android operating system that comes bundled with Android, comes with fast and fluid capabilities that are no different from OnePlus flagships. Nord will also receive 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security updates.

OnePlus has also equipped the Nord with a display clocked at90 Hz, which is rare on devices in this price range. 6.44-inch OLED display with a 20: 9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels. These characteristics should result in an excellent viewing experience.

RAM and memory are also plentiful. The base model comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, a 12/256 GB option is also available.

The battery size is also decent. The 4115mAh capacity, coupled with the efficiency of the Snapdragon 765G, should provide decent battery life. The OnePlus Warp proprietary charger is also on board, so it should take a few minutes to charge the battery.

Camera

OnePlus has provided Nord with the appropriate hardware.

Four cameras on the back:

  • 48MP main camera Sony IMX 586 with OIS
  • 8MP ultra wide-angle camera
  • 2 megapixel macro camera
  • 5MP depth sensor

No 2x or 3x telephoto lens, but a 48MP sensor can provide a decent 2x alternative through cropping

As for the selfie camera, Nord has:

  • 32MP main camera
  • 8MP ultra wide-angle camera

Extra wide at the front useful for groupsphotos or simply to get more of the surroundings in your photos. Back with the OnePlus 8 series, the manufacturer has shown that it can compete with the best when it comes to camera performance, and we expect the same experience on the OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus has also released some cool cases for the Nord.

Price and release date

OnePlus Nord 5G costs 399 euros (about 460dollars) for the 8/128 GB version. That's a little lower than we expected, but it's still a great price for a device that delivers so much. It will go on sale on August 4th. The first markets to receive it — these are India and Europe, others will start selling after a while.
