OnePlus promises to add an option to disable throttling in OxygenOS 12

At one time, Apple got into a major scandal due to a hidden decrease in the performance of its old

smartphones. Now, to some extent, history has repeated itself with OnePlus - although everything is not so serious.

What happened?

A couple of weeks ago OnePlus was caughton the performance limitations of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro flagships. Geekbench even considered this to be performance manipulation and excluded OnePlus 9 Duo from the list. While benchmarking apps performed as expected from the Snapdragon 888 processor, the phones limited the ability of many other apps to utilize the chipset's maximum capacity during use.

OnePlus eventually admitted this. The company explained that today's high-performance chipsets are redundant for most applications, and performance was limited in order to increase battery life. However, further tests showed that such battery savings are insignificant.

The manufacturer also promised to add a new option to OxygenOS 12, which will allow users to choose whether to enable optimization or not.

"Because different chips work differently,And we want to get maximum performance and efficiency from each of them, we have implemented performance optimizations to varying degrees on OnePlus 9R and Nord 2. However, taking into account user and media feedback, our R&D team is currently working on adding an option that allows users enable/disable this optimized mode and better control the performance of your phones. We aim to prepare this solution using one of the first builds of OxygenOS 12,” the comment says.

OxygenOS 12 should be based on Android 12, which is expected to roll out on select devices later this year.
