Fearing a virus outbreak, LG, Ericsson, Nvidia, Sony, Amazon, Intel, Vivo, TCL and NTT Docomo have already refused to travel to Spain.
Now this list has been supplemented by HMD Global, which produces smartphones under the Nokia brand.
“We have spent enough time to evaluaterapidly changing situation, communicate with GSMA and other stakeholders, regularly consult with external experts. Having carefully weighed all the risks, we have decided to refuse to participate in MWC 2020 in Barcelona,” the Finnish company said in a statement.
The manufacturer plans to show off its new products at separate Nokia Live events.
What's next
Looking at this whole situation, the organizer of the exhibition, the GSMA Association, seemed to consider this a bad idea.
Sources close to the GSMA say thatorganizers asked the Spanish government to declare a health emergency. This will allow them to cancel the exhibition without losing their insurance payout.
If officials do not agree, the GSMA, it seems, will have to hold the exhibition so as not to lose money.
Most likely, the final decision will be made in the coming days.
