Orion arrives at Kennedy Space Center three weeks after returning to Earth

On December 11, the Orion spacecraft returned to Earth, completing its journey around the Moon. The device is already

transported to Kennedy Space Center, whereSpecialists from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will study the spacecraft and its contents.

What is known

Orion descended into the Pacific Ocean using parachutes. From there, it was picked up by the USS Portland, a US Navy ship, and delivered to the base in Sand Diego on December 13. The next day, the capsule left for Florida.

NASA experts will analyze the thermalscreen, which during landing successfully reduced the speed of the ship by several orders of magnitude. Also, the space agency will check the data collected by the dummy. The goal is to establish how traveling around the moon can affect a person. In particular, we are talking about the effect of radiation.

The first manned flight under the programArtemis will take place in 2024. Earlier this year, NASA is due to announce a list of four astronauts who will travel around the moon as part of the Artemis II mission. The moon landing is expected in 2025.
