Perseverance began to explore the region of Mars, where he traveled for several months

NASA's Mars rover Perseverance has begun exploring an area scientists call "Yori Pass." He

is located near the base of the ancient delta inJezero Crater. The mission staff had been planning to explore this region for several months. The fact is that they previously discovered a rock supposedly similar in composition to one of the samples collected by Perseverance in July.

NASA's blog says the sandstone is a piece of rock that is made up of small grains carried by water from other places before settling and forming into stone.

Scientists pay special attention to fine-grainedsedimentary rocks in search of organic matter and potential biosignatures - any characteristic, element, molecule, substance or property that would prove the existence of ancient life on the Red Planet.

Their search in the Jezero Crater is one of fourscientific goals of Perseverance. After it collects a sample from Yori Pass, Perseverance will travel 227 meters southeast to Lookout Mountain. At this location, the rover will collect the first samples of regolith, or crushed rock and dust.
