Over the past few years, Philips TVs have confidently held their positions thanks not only to
What is behind the term Philips TV Performance
In fact, we are talking about the marketing name of the seriesPhilips TVs, which received the traditional index 7304. Let me remind you that the first series of the index means the series, the higher it is, the more expensive the TV. The older series with index 9 has always been a “festival” and was created not so much for sales as for demonstrating technological capabilities and collecting prestigious awards. For example, now such TVs use Bowers & Wilkins acoustics. The second digit of the index indicates the subseries within the line. The third is for the design option (we sell TVs with indexes 7304, 7334 and 7354). Finally, the last series indicates the year of release (and repeats every 10 years). 4 means 2019 year of manufacture. Thus, the full model index50PUS7334 / 12reads like a 50-inch Philips (P) TV withUltraHD (U) resolution, DVB-T/T2/C/S/S2 (S) tuner, belonging to the 7000 line, produced in 2019, created for the European market (12 after the slash).
And this 7300th series was namedPerformance, in order to make it stand out. And it's really worth it. A special advertising video has been developed for the series, promoting the slogan “The one that has everything!” Literally, it can be translated as “the one in which everything is” - remember, Neo from “The Matrix” also had a similar name for the messiah - One. It’s impossible to understand the technical capabilities from the video itself—it’s only needed to attract attention, so let’s take a closer look at the advantages of the entire series.
In the automotive environment for such casesthe word "charged" is used. It means that we are not talking about the basic configuration of the car, but about a large number of various bells and whistles that the buyer independently added as an option. In this case, this word perfectly describes the ideology of the Performance series. It has a rather "expensive" design, with a thin metal frame and an impressive stand (heavy, as it should be, in order to carry the weight of the TV). On the store shelf, you will be surprised by the price tag, because it will look noticeably lower than the effect produced. No, this series doesn't have the best panels with the deep blacks that the 803 series TVs (and 903 series) boast, and the sound isn't cutting-edge either. But everything else in the TVs of the entire series is done to the maximum: Android 9 version, 4K panel (10-bit), the most advanced Philips P5 Perfect Picture processor to date, the capabilities of which we devoted a separate review to, a thin LCD panel with LED direct- backlight. Branded three-sided Ambilight lighting, which has new functions. Advanced options for sound and image settings. Finally, the ability to connect Bluetooth headphones and wireless speakers. And a proprietary remote control with a QWERTY keyboard on the back and a microphone for voice commands of the Google assistant and Amazon Alexa assistant. Impressed? Now let's talk about everything in more detail.
Design
As already mentioned, the TV has a thina metal frame and a weighty monolithic stand, giving it an impressive and uncompromisingly respectable appearance. Of course, in a situation where all TVs are rectangles, the only place where the designer can apply his efforts is the stand.

</ img>
</ img>
Have you noticed that externally TVsdo they differ today in the design of the stand? Especially when they are next to each other on store shelves. Therefore, all manufacturers try to come up with something new every year. And with all responsibility I am ready to say that this TV has the most ingenious stand that I have ever seen before. It is extremely compact, with a very low-slung TV - photographs do not convey this amazing feeling and delight of the design idea.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
At the same time, inside the stand they still managed toinstall a rotating mechanism that allows you to rotate the TV panel around a vertical axis. In the photo below you can catch the optical illusion: the pictures look as if the panel is rotated clockwise and back.
Benefits of Android TV
We have repeatedly talked about the benefits of TVs using Android TV. In short, the list looks like this:
- the ability to use your Android account (now you don’t even need to enter a password to connect to the TV, you can connect it using a computer or Android smartphone / tablet)
- automatic authorization in Google services(for example, YouTube) - after connecting an Android account, all personalized YouTube lists are immediately available - watched video, recommendations, favorite channels
- saved purchases of movies, music and games
- by the way, about games - you can connect gamepads andkeyboards, and play on the big screen games specially adapted for TVs. For example, in races with a split screen into 2,3 or 4 parts and, accordingly, 2, 3 or 4 players. The TV will replace the game console in most cases
- opportunity for experienced users understandingwhat they do, install apk applications (first you need to remove protection in the settings). So you can install video service applications that are not in the Google app store
- voice search using the Google Assistant is simple and convenient; you can search for movies in all video services available to your TV in natural language.
It is worth adding that Philips 50PUS7334 worksrunning the original Android TV version 9 and will receive all new system updates. The manufacturer says that this is the most stable and productive version. It is constantly developing and acquiring new capabilities - it is clear that Google developers take into account the wishes of users (working with video services has become more convenient - more about this below). And in addition to the Google voice assistant, the Philips 50PUS7334 also supports Amazon Alexa.
Ambilight backlight
As the Philips branded booklet states, “BackgroundAmbilight is another reason to love your TV. ” This is a real diamond in the crown of Philips TVs, and along with a remote control with a QWERTY-keyboard, this manufacturer's competitive advantage.
</ img>
The new generation of Ambilight lighting includesadditional settings. If previously the backlight differed only in that it was on two sides or three (three-sided used more LEDs, so such TVs were more expensive), and the only settings were the choice of the color of the wall behind the TV for color correction, now the settings began to correlate with video (there are separate profiles for watching football, movies or games) or sound (you can turn the TV into a color music system).

An interesting option is the backlight, tiedto the national flag. It looks unusual, but recognizable. True, this is not for all flags. Ukrainian here is just noticeable right away. But, for example, the South Korean will look just white. It’s hard to say where to use it - probably during exhibitions or watching sporting events. But somehow I have not seen Philips TVs in bars and conference rooms, although, of course, no one bothers to organize watching a football or boxing match by inviting my friends and turning on such lighting - it definitely will add atmosphere to a sports show.
</ img>
</ img>
Another possibility, albeit somewhat exotic, is synchronizing the backlight with Philips Hue smart lamps.

I also liked the new alarm function cAmbilight. It allows you to wake up in the morning to a selected melody with a given sound volume and a smoothly appearing backlit image (pictured below). There are 10 themes to choose from, each of which will contain new photographs in the chosen style: nature, architecture, street photography, space, sports. When the TV is turned on, it also shows the weather forecast, but for it to work correctly, the TV, of course, must be connected to the Internet.

Image settings
Philips 7304 TV picture settingsseries is simply a holiday for those who like to twist everything with their hands and tighten it to their taste. In addition to the usual clarity, brightness and contrast, as well as color temperature, you can go into the ISF settings (analogous to THX) and have fun with the white balance, carefully calibrating it and adjusting it to the lighting conditions of a particular room.

Here's what I really liked - it'sthe “Image defects removal” section, which allows you to independently adjust the noise reduction filter and smooth out defects in MPEG video compression.

</ img>
</ img>
For those who do not want to complicate things to the limit, there is a simple image adjustment protocol, where each time you need to choose one of three options for color, clarity and contrast. Once and done!

Sound settings
Management deserves another kind wordsound on this TV. You can enable / disable Dolby Atmos, activate speech enhancement in television programs, enable a special night mode (so as not to frighten home and neighbors with a loud sound, but hear everything well). There are separate settings to take into account the placement of the TV - on the wall or on the stand.

But, of course, the most spectacular section is5-band equalizer on the TV! I had never seen such detailed settings on TVs before. That's really a direct analogy with “charged” cars for tuning fans.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
Separately, I would like to highlight the ability to connect toTV Bluetooth headphones and speakers. Last year, this feature was removed from Philips TVs, which could not but upset users. This year it was returned, which is certainly correct. When there is a small child in the house or you want to watch TV late at night without waking up your family, this is just a great solution! Especially if, like me, the house is always full of all sorts of wireless headphones.

Power Saver Settings
Usually we do not pay attention to suchindicators like energy efficiency of home appliances. But then came the moment when in the comments to the previous review of the TV, our reader asked me about this. Apparently, the increase in electricity prices brought us closer to the civilized world, and we too will begin to ask this question. Everything is fine with the energy-saving settings of this TV - there is even a special optical sensor that notices a decrease in the light in the room and automatically dims the brightness in this case. You can turn off the image if the TV is used in music playback mode (for example, you are a YouTube Music subscriber).

Installing third-party applications
And for this opportunity, the Android TV platform, definitely added a lot of fans. To install the apk file of a third-party application that is not in the Google Play store, you first need to remove the protection in the settings. Here.

Desktop customization
</ img>
Of course, any Smart TV now has the abilitydesktop settings (the main screen where all applications and access to settings are located), but in Android TV this opportunity is even wider - it allows you not only to add a shortcut to the video service application, but also to receive recommended content from it. Its quantity depends on the application. For example, I brought Megogo lists to my desktop and now I can see (and immediately launch a specific movie or series) a section with premieres, a list of my views, and so on. Twich, by the way, had three such lists: user-selected, popular, and broadcasts recommended by the service itself.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
All lists can be independently moved up and down the desktop. All this is done with the remote control:

Image and sound quality
Of course, it would be fair to review a TVQuestion - what about the quality of sound and image? After all, people actually buy a TV for this, and not to install and run applications. In terms of the image, the Philips 50PUS7334 TV provides a picture at the level of the best LCD TVs. Here you need to understand that it will not physically reach the level of excellent color rendition and depth of black, but it will do everything that can be squeezed out of the technology of the previous generation. The heart of the TV is the P5 Perfect Picture processor, which has already earned consumer recognition, providing smooth pictures in ultra-high 4K resolution, regardless of the image source. Of course, it couldn't do without support for high dynamic range - this TV supports both the common HDR 10+ format and Dolby Vision, which is added to all models of Philips 4K TVs in the new 2019 line.
Regarding the sound, I must admit, I don’t remember whenI've met TVs whose sound quality didn't suit me. They have an incredibly high volume reserve, which does not allow you to turn the volume up to full power even during the day. Of course, on flagship TVs you can find some particularly rich bass or “tasty” sound, but that’s what the whole set of settings is for, allowing you to tweak the sound even in the equalizer. At worst, audiophiles can always connect their favorite and nurtured set of acoustics.
Connections
In addition to wireless connections via Bluetooth andWi-Fi, the Philips 50PUS7334 has on board four HDMI connectors for connecting external equipment, two USB ports, a headphone output (special thanks), a digital audio output, an Ethernet input, an antenna and satellite signal input, as well as YPbPr component inputs.
</ img>
Remote control
Remote controlThe Philips 50PUS7334 TV is interesting in several ways. Firstly, it is double-sided - on the reverse side there is a Latin QWERTY keyboard. Secondly, it has a microphone that allows you to use Google voice search. Thirdly, there is a separate button for launching Ambilight settings, which is separately illuminated in the dark after pressing. Netflix users will especially appreciate the special launch button for this service's application.
</ img>
</ img>
</ img>
In the era of the Internet of things, updating firmware fromyou won’t surprise anything anymore, so the remote control firmware update function should not surprise either. But every time for some reason you are surprised.

Neighbors in the Philips 50PUS7334 TV line
In addition to the 50-inch model Philips 50PUS7334,with a pleasant price tag of 21,999 hryvnia, this series includes TVs with diagonals of 43, 55, 65, 70 and 75 inches. They differ only in the size and design of the stand. In older models, with diagonals 65 inches and above, it does not have the ability to rotate. The dimensions of the VESA mount may differ, as well as the power consumption and, of course, the price. But the amount of memory and speakers is the same for all models.

Competitors
Paradox, but if you take into account onlyTV on Android TV, the Philips 50PUS7334 has no direct competitors. Sony does not have 50-inch models, only 49-inch ones, and they cost a little more. There is a cheap 50-inch Kivi 4K TV, but its technological capabilities cannot be compared with this model. Here we have Android version 9, Ambilight, amazing in its diversity sound and image settings that no other manufacturer of TVs on Android TV has.
In the dry residue
The Philips 50PUS7334 4K TV is certainly notis an example of the most advanced technology in the industry. But it is truly well-charged and provides the maximum technology available today for LCD TVs. In addition to the traditional advantages of the Android platform, which each time provides more and more opportunities for users (by the way, we are talking about the latest version to date, version 9) and the proprietary Ambilight lighting, which cannot be over-praised, this model leaves the best impressions. From the design (a stand that delights the designer who can come up with such a solution). From a remote control with a QWERTY keyboard and a built-in microphone for voice search. From a pack of image and sound settings that can satisfy the most fastidious lovers of tinkering and tweaking something else (which is just an equalizer or eliminating defects in MPEG video compression). Finally, the ability to connect wireless headphones and speakers. At the same time, its price is not exorbitant and is comparable to the cost of a flagship smartphone (which, let us remember, will become obsolete in two years, unlike this TV). Therefore, we cannot deny ourselves the pleasure of recommending this model for purchase, and issuing the corresponding editorial awardgg"We recommend"
