Photos of early prototype of the very first Apple iPod revealed

Panic has shared an exclusive photo of an extremely early prototype of the iPod, which was previously widely

the public couldn't see.The prototype is yellow in color and quite large compared to the original iPod, despite being created late in the product development cycle. The iPod prototype is said to date back to September 3, 2001.

The prototype operates under proprietary controliPod software and even features a small scroll wheel in the top left corner next to the display. On the right side of the device there are several tactile buttons arranged vertically.

It is equipped with the same ports as the originaliPod including FireWire and standard headphone port. The display is very small compared to the rest of the case, but appears to be comparable in size to the display of the iPod itself. It is not known what color the prototype was originally in, but there are speculations that it was light gray or white and has turned yellow over the past two decades. Although it is possible that he was such from the very beginning.

The authenticity of the prototype was confirmed in hisTwitter account of the “father of the iPod” himself, Tony Fadell. According to him, when creating the P68/Dulcimer prototype “hurriedly” there was no task of working out the form factor, and inside the huge case there was “mostly air”.
