Players suspect that Ubisoft is going to stop them access to several games

Ubisoft recently announced that it will be shutting down online servers for games starting September 1st. Now they've started to notice on Steam

a strange update that caused users to suspect that Ubisoft is going to close access to some purchased games.

These are the following projects:

  • Anno 2070
  • ASsasin's Creed Liberation HD
  • Synthetic Journey 5: Battle of the Atlantic
  • Space Junkeys.

Messages started appearing on everyone's Steam page:

“At the request of the publisher, the product is no longer sold on Steam.

“Please note: This product will no longer be available as of September 1, 2022”.

If the first message is standard and periodicappears in games that are taken away from sale on Steam, then the second one is no longer there: a message of this format is only available on the pages of the Ubisoft project. In addition, the listed games were taken by Steam search – You can only get there via a direct link.

The second message is annoying users:it sounds like the games are going to be removed from the Steam libraries, or at least made unavailable - it seems that you can download them, but you won’t be able to play.

Some old Ubisoft games hung similarmessages, but they concern only expanded editions and supplements. For example, in Splinter Cell Blacklist there is a warning: “Please note: The Deluxe Edition and DLC for this product will no longer be available starting September 1, 2022”. The game itself will remain the same.

It remains possible that the words were simply not chosen correctly in the message, but it was not possible to find clarifying comments from Ubisoft. Note that three of the four games have their own nuances:

  • The developers of Anno 2070 have already promised to think about how to keep access to the game.
  • Assisin's Creed Liberation has twoversions: HD, which was released separately and is now collected, and the improved edition that comes with Assisin's Creed III Remastered. The improved edition, it seems, is not going to be disabled.
  • Space Junkeys is the multiplayer VR shooter of 2019. Looks like it was dead on arrival, peaking at 61 online at the time of release, and reviews remained mixed.
