The reason for the suspension of aircraft deliveries andengines to them was the accident F-35B in Texas. In December 2022, the plane crashed on the runway during a vertical landing. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fall was an engine malfunction.
As it turned out, deliveries of F135 engines werestopped on December 27, 2022. The ban will be lifted only after the investigation into the F-35B crash in Texas is completed. This is a joint decision between the F-35 Joint Program Office and defense contractor Pratt & Whitney.
Interestingly, the head of Pratt & Whitney in a letterfor Defense News wrote that F135 deliveries have not been officially suspended. The company's vice president adds that the engine has over 600,000 flight hours, and the safety of combat fighters is the manufacturer's top priority.
