Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G: fast and with support for all 5G frequencies

The world's largest chipmaker Qualcomm has prepared for release a new module for working with mobile networks of the fifth

generations. This is the third generation 5G modem from the brand, and it appeared just a year after the start of sales of the first generation modems.

The upcoming X60 5G will be much faster than the modemprevious generation, but most importantly - it will be universal. If the X50 and X55 modems supported only certain frequencies from the 5G range, then the new product will support all available ones. However, while it’s too early for users to rejoice and rub their hands, in the hope of buying a smartphone with a new universal wireless chipset in a couple of months. While the new modem is under development, albeit the final one.

The company declares that working and test samplesIt will begin to deliver to its customers in a couple of months, but finished smartphones will not appear on them so soon, the first ones may be expected at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next. What does this mean for consumers of all premium? This means that almost all significant premium flagships will fly by the new chip this year, and will be equipped with an X55 modem. However, the vast majority of users will not even notice the difference. After all, they have 5G either working or not, and what frequencies the chip grabs there, no difference at all.

The specifications of the new modem include:

  • 5 nanometer process technology (this is the only modem in the world on this process yet);
  • The presence of QTM535 mmWave - the latest antenna module with increased power;
  • Support for the aggregation of the entire existing spectrum of new networks in the world.

The latter means not just support for any 5G frequency ranges, but also the ability to simultaneously catch on two types of networks, which can increase the speed and stability of the connection.

According to the manufacturer, the X60 receivedsupport for the highest download speeds, the maximum is 7.5 gigabits per second, while the upload speed is 3 gigabits per second. This is not what Qualcomm was silent about when they made the press release, but the level of energy consumption (energy efficiency) of the chip. The only mention of this is in the form of a promise to users that their devices will be able to work all day. True, there is a reservation about the dependence of autonomy on settings and other factors.
