Qualcomm has unveiled a reference design for augmented reality (AR) glasses. They can be used to create
The new XR1 Smart Viewer glasses can be connected tosmartphone or PC via USB-C. The device looks like sunglasses and should be quite lightweight. The first glasses based on the design will be released in mid-2021.
Qualcomm is positioning the device as a must-have foruser. The glasses have two OLED displays with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The device also has an array of cameras that are used to overlay an image on top of the real world. Cameras can also track hand movements and recognize nearby work surfaces. This allows you to "attach" a virtual window to a wall or place a virtual object on a table and then interact with it with gestures. Like most AR glasses, the XR1 Smart Viewer has a relatively limited field of view of 45 degrees.
Lenovo has already presented its glasses based on a reference design - this is the ThinkReality A3.
