Raytheon conducted laboratory tests of the Enhanced Power and Cooling System (EPACS). Energy management system
What is known
Laboratory testing of EPACS was completed successfully.Raytheon expects the system to reach Technology Readiness Level 6 by the end of this year. In 2024, the company will be able to launch an engineering and manufacturing development program (Engineering & Manufacturing Development).
EPACS will provide a significant increase in cooling capacity (by a factor of two) and require less power from the F135 engine. This will increase the performance and durability of the power plant.
A Raytheon press release states that EPACS will be able tomeet the growing cooling needs of the F135 engine. According to the manufacturer, the new energy management system will be compatible with all versions of the fifth generation fighter (F-35 A/B/C).
