Earlier this year, OPPO released three verysimilar flagship smartphones. The coolest (and at the same time the most boring) came out under its own brand as OPPO Find X5 Pro, a slightly simpler model was called OnePlus 10 Pro, and the simplest in the trinity was Realme GT 2 Pro. Let's take a quick look at the differences between smartphones (at the feature level), and then take a closer look at the Realme GT 2 Pro to answer the question: “the third one was completely stupid” or is the younger brother in this family a good candidate to buy?

Differences between the three flagships

– Only Realme GT 2 Pro has a flat screen; OPPO and OnePlus have a slightly curved panel at the edges;
– According to the specifications, the Realme GT 2 Pro has a brighter display, but in reality this is not the case;
– Realme GT 2 Pro does not have IP68 certification, but there is still a rubber gasket on the SIM tray, that is, in fact, there is water resistance;
– Only OPPO Find X5 Pro has a Dimensity modification, the rest only work on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1;
– OnePlus 10 Pro retains the proprietary 1/1.43″ camera sensor, while the rest have IMX766 (1/1.56″);
– OPPO Find X5 Pro retained the IMX766 as the width, while Realme and OnePlus received the Samsung JN1 in this role (but with an angle of up to 150 degrees);
– OnePlus got the best telephoto: 3.3x, 8 megapixels and OIS; OPPO has 2x and 13 megapixels (without OIS), and Realme has completely replaced the telephoto camera with a microscope camera;
– Only Realme GT 2 Pro lacks wireless charging, and it has 65 W wired charging instead of 80 W.

This is not an exhaustive list, but other differencesor invisible in practice, or cannot be identified simply by the list of characteristics and require a deeper study of devices. What are we going to do now! By the way, we already have a review of OnePlus 10 Pro on our website.

    Equipment and design

    Realme GT 2 Pro does not come in black and yellowbox, which is very unusual for brand smartphones. The packaging is white and made of corrugated cardboard, which feels like the body of a device - a cool solution. Most likely, it was invented by smartphone designer Naoto Fukasawa; his autograph is on the box next to the model name. Previously, Fukasawa created only Master versions of smartphones for Realme, and now he has worked on Slave as well. (Excuse me, what other antonym for the word Master did you expect?)

    We open the box.Inside - documentation, a SIM needle, a matte gray case, a USB cable and a huge 65-W charger. How fast it charges - we will tell at the end of the review. The GT 2 Pro has four colors: two standard (black and blue) and two "paper" ones - white and light green. They are made of some kind of biological polymer (a euphemism for the word "plastic"), molded with an unusual texture. The material is very pleasant to the touch, prints do not remain on it, plus it is promised that it is very durable - if you believe, you can carry the phone without a case. If you buy Realme GT 2 Pro, then only “paper”.

    The ends of the smartphone are metal, they are verycontrols are traditionally separated. On the right is the power button, on the top is the second microphone, on the left is the volume rocker, on the bottom is the dual SIM tray (microSD not supported), microphone, USB Type-C port and multimedia speaker. He plays in tandem with colloquial, forming an almost equivalent stereo pair. In games and other scenarios, it can be supplemented by a linear vibration motor, which is cool here and imitates recoil well.

    Realme GT 2 Pro is equipped with 6.7″ LTPO2 displaywith a resolution of 3216x1440 pixels, or Quad HD+. The panel can display a billion colors and updates 120 times per second. The maximum declared brightness is a fantastic 1400 nits; in practice it is a little lower, but it easily breaks through a thousand in the sun, which means that there are no problems with the readability of information on the street, even in our latitudes. The clarity of the picture is magnificent, I have no complaints about contrast, color rendition and viewing angles. It sounds too good to be true, and indeed - in practice there are two unpleasant moments.

    Firstly, very strong PWM.Even at 100% brightness – 50%. And below half, it flies above 100%. Yes, there is a DC Dimming option, and it doesn’t even distort the colors much, however, the PWM level remains high - up to 90%. Although… I don’t know whether the PWM frequency changes or what, but at a brightness of about 25% PWM with DC Dimming turned on is perceived much easier than with it turned off. The second problem is autohertzization. The phone constantly switches at 10-11-12-13 Hz, and sometimes at 1 Hz, and the exit from this state occurs with jerks. Many applications run at 60 Hz during autohertz, including the Play Market. And in games, especially when heated, sometimes even 30 Hz! OnePlus 10 Pro had the same problem, by the way, so this is a “birth injury” of the three flagship brothers. Touch – 120 Hz, in some games it accelerates to 240 Hz.

    Software

    I think there is no need to tell againabout Android 12 and Realme UI. There are many customization chips, there are several interesting features tied to hardware technologies - for example, the ability to connect to two Wi-Fi points at once. True, it only works with some applications, among which there are no games, Chrome and the Play Market, and none of the access points that reach my apartment fit the role of an additional one. Kind of a weird feature.

    Cameras

    Realme GT 2 Pro is equipped with a triple camera,consisting of a 50-megapixel main module based on the Sony IMX766 sensor (autofocus, OIS), a 50-megapixel wide sensor based on Samsung JN1 (fixed focus, EIS) and a 2-megapixel camera-microscope. We will talk about the microscope separately a little later, but first - examples of photos and videos for two main cameras. Separately, I’ll make a reservation that I don’t have examples of 150-degree wide photos - there is such hellish distortion that I didn’t see any point in using this mode. If you are curious, welcome to the video review.

    Great detail, low noise,minimal sharpening, no chromatic aberrations - in general, the camera is very, very strong, and the width too. At night, due to OIS and a large sensor, the main camera shoots cool, but the width noticeably sags - it smears, it just takes very dark pictures - but it also looks more than worthy. But there is still one problem. Colors. In many photographs, the colors are very different from reality. Orange bricks instead of red? Lemon yellow apricots? Gray artificial roses? Crimson flower instead of burgundy? Blue bushes in the background? And no, there was no blue lighting, the phone just repainted the trees blue! Why Realme GT 2 Pro is so wrong in color reproduction, I don't understand.

    And another problem - it is impossible to removemacro. Realme, like OnePlus, has disabled autofocus in the wide area (Samsung JN1 has it at the sensor level), and the main camera does not focus well closer than 10 cm. The microscope is also not an option, it has a focal length of only a few millimeters, so remove a coin or flower will not work. But, of course, the microscope is a power, and it is much more interesting than any macro plug or depth sensor. And, please note that for the manufacturer, such a module is no more expensive than a plug - there is the same GalaxyCore GC02M1B sensor and rather simple optics. Tell me in the comments where to sign the petition so that instead of plugs they put a wonderful camera on which you can shoot all this:

    Paper, toothbrush, pencil, button 5intercom, Pantech I’m Back wheel, its knobby corner, maple wing, mosquito net, end of scissors, “Breathe” plate, border of the mercury thermometer tank, tablecloth, sports T-shirt, epoxy resin product, non-woven wallpaper, coin and computer screen

    About video.The main camera can shoot at 4320p@24fps or 2160p@60fps, wide is only available at 2160p@30fps. Of all the modes, I advise choosing 2160p@60fps. 8K, of course, gives more detail, but not every device will be able to play video at such a high resolution, and 24 fps is not the most pleasant level of frame rate. On the other hand, at 2160p@30fps, ghosting from EIS, which works in tandem with OIS, is very noticeable (at 60 fps there is also electronic stabilization, but ghosting is almost indistinguishable), plus at 60 fps color correction algorithms are not so aggressive, which is why the picture looks more natural. Well, if you want to shoot wide, then 2160p@30fps is at your service.

    32-megapixel front camera is good, selfies are obtainedhigh-quality almost in any conditions (if you do not neglect the screen flash). Video, however, is written only in 1080p@30fps, which is a bit ridiculous; but what is, is.

      Performance and tests

      Realme GT 2 Pro received excellent hardware in the faceflagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. At the time of the release of this smartphone, it was the best that Realme could possibly offer, and despite the announcement at the very beginning of the year, the company managed to unleash the potential of the flagship chipset well. Throttling is noticeable, but less than most devices based on it.

      And everything would be fine, if not for one nuance.Hertsovka. When heated, the phone starts switching the screen to 30 Hz mode even in games! Moreover, this is done bypassing vertical synchronization, that is, the processor continues to work under load, trying to give out up to 60 fps, and the screen simply skips half of the generated frames. As a result, it feels even worse than honest 30 fps. Well, if the phone is cold, you still won’t see more than 60 Hz in games - I checked on several, but even the Ballz “litmus test” started at 60 Hz. Even more I will say: it started at 16:9 with a huge bar at the bottom of the screen, and I did not find how to change it.

      With heating, the situation is twofold.I have already lost the habit of plastic flagships, but if you delve into reviews from the past, this situation has often occurred. The back panel of the smartphone practically does not heat up, it is comfortable to hold it even after a long gaming session. But this means that the smartphone can only remove heat through the metal ends - and they heat up so that it is unpleasant to touch. If you can come up with a comfortable grip that does not touch the ends, then playing on the Realme GT 2 Pro will be a pleasure. Or put on a cover.

      The battery capacity is 5000 mAh, itIt consists of two 2500 mAh cells, which made it possible to implement 65 W fast charging. It charges really quickly: half in 14 minutes, up to 90% in 28 minutes and fully in 34 minutes. But it can also be discharged very quickly: on the first day I got 3.5 hours of screen - and during this time the phone was discharged from 100% to 1%. True, I then naively turned on Quad HD + and constant 120 Hz.

      Switching to autohertz and Full HD+, Igot a much better result - 6.5 hours of screen for a day and a half. This is already the indicator that allows you to count on Realme GT 2 Pro in any situation, including the most stressful days and travel. Synthetic: -13% for two hours of YouTube and -25% for an hour in SuperTuxKart. By the way, the average fps during the test was 60, i.e. the game ran smoothly even an hour later. Not everyone can do that.

      I have no complaints about the work of cellular networks. GPS also works well, although once there was a long failure of about ten meters to the northwest. I don't know what he was involved with.

        Conclusions

        It seems to me that "the youngest was a fool at all" - thisstill an inappropriate description for the Realme GT 2 Pro. Firstly, he got a lot of cool features from his older brothers (Quad HD + screen, top-end hardware, fast charging). Secondly, in an attempt to reduce the cost of the device, OPPO gave it a few more goodies - a flat screen, a cool plastic back and, of course, a microscope. On the other hand, if compared to the Find X5 Pro, the smartphone really turned out to be affordable, then the difference with the OnePlus 10 Pro on AliExpress is around 5,000 rubles. And there, after all, there is a telephoto, and in general the camera is more pleasant, and also wireless charging. Although I personally like the GT 2 Pro goodies more.
