Researchers have developed a new method for displaying realistic 3D images using "holographic
As technology advances, researchers want toachieve high-quality visual images - from 2D high-definition television to 3D holographic augmented or virtual reality. They must support a significant amount of data flow: for a 2D Full HD display, the transfer rate is about 3 Gb / s, but for a 3D display of the same resolution, a speed of 3 Tb / s is required.
Holographic displays can recreatehigh quality images for a 3D visual experience. They are considered to be the most advanced display technology to connect the real and virtual worlds.
We live in a hologram: the strangest theories about the universe that may be true
“Ensuring adequate 3D perception withusing current technology is a huge challenge,” said the Cambridge engineering professor who led the study. “Over the past ten years, we have been developing holographic displays that allow both a large size and a large field of view, which should correspond to a hologram with a large content of optical information.”
To solve this problem, researchers have developed"holographic bricks" based on coarse-grained integrated holographic displays. Each of them uses a spatial light modulator with a high information throughput. It delivers information in combination with coarse integrated optics to form corner-tiled 3D holograms with a large area of view and field of view.
