Rheinmetall and Elbit Systems conducted a fire test of a highly automated wheeled howitzer with a 155 mm L52 cannon and an RMMV HX 10×10 chassis

Rheinmetall and Elbit Systems announced a successful fire test of the L52 wheeled artillery mount. Tests

took place in March of this year at the Shivta training ground in Israel. The tests were attended by high-ranking guests from the armed forces of Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary.

What is known

German and Israeli companies signedagreement on the joint development, production and sales of a self-propelled artillery mount in 2022. Britain and Hungary are already showing interest in the new weapon.

The howitzer is equipped with a 155 mm L52 cannon.The chassis used is the highly mobile tactical truck RMMV HX (pictured above) with a 10&#215;10 wheel arrangement. It is developed by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles. The vehicle has a well-protected cabin and electronics for the fire control unit.

The German manufacturer is already working onto ensure the integration of new guns in the future. In particular, the artillery mount will be equipped with the L52 gun upgraded to the A1 level, after which it will receive the L60 gun.

The L60 is currently under development.The maximum firing range will be 83 km. This corresponds to the program of the German armed forces, which is called Zukünftiges System Indirektes Feuer Mittlerer Reichweite. The project is aimed at increasing the firing range of German artillery.
