Actually, the fans of the studio askedwhat the developers were up to. Usually, in such cases, there are no answers, but Greg Street immediately admitted that this is an MMO based on the League of Legends universe. Here's a random announcement from Riot.
Apparently, Riot Games decided to take away everything freegamers have time. The League of Legends franchise has already released auto chess Teamfight Tactics, the card game Legends of Runeterra, and the MOBA League of Legends Wild Rift is coming to Android and iOS. In addition, Riot is working on a fighting game and a “diabloid”, and in 2020 the e-sports shooter Valorant was released.
