DoNotPay has announced that the "world's first robot lawyer" will be involved in two criminal cases.
Representatives of the company say that the defendants inthe courtroom will need to wear regular Bluetooth-enabled AirPods. The "robot" will analyze the statements of the participants in the process, develop a defense strategy and tell the accused what to say. The company promised to compensate for fines and other possible damage to the participants in the process in case of failure.
The company keeps the date of the meetings secretand specific cases where the new technology will be used. The developers fear that the judicial panel will intervene and prohibit the experiment. At the same time, DoNotPay representatives believe that the use of AI will help in the future provide access to qualified defense for low-income individuals who cannot afford a professional lawyer.
DoNotPay was launched in 2015 as a relativelya simple chatbot that provided legal advice on consumer protection issues. For example, he could prepare an appeal against a parking fine or a refund request from an airline based on templates.
Since 2020, the company has connected AI basedOpenAI, which uses the GPT-3 language model for natural speech recognition and processing. The company notes that during training, the “lawyer” from DoNotPay studied more than 3 million court cases in order to understand all the existing precedents.

The company also wants to test itsa robot in a more complex case: the founder of the company announced on his social network that he would pay $ 1,000,000 to anyone who agrees to take on a robot assistant in a US Supreme Court case.
