Robotic dog Mini Cheetah has become a football goalkeeper - he protects the goal more effectively than EPL goalkeepers

The robotic dog Mini Cheetah “took a course” in goalkeeping skills, in which it proved to be better

professional goalkeepers of the English Premier League.

What is known

The robot was created at MIT.Engineers from the University of California at Berkeley (The University of California, Berkeley), Simon Fraser University and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Institute of Technology) worked on training the device.

According to statistics, the best goalkeepers in the EnglishPremier League football saves 80% of shots on target. Robotic dog Mini Cheetah weighing less than 10 kg was able to surpass professional athletes. The goalkeeper robot parried 87.5% of shots.

Engineers taught the Mini Cheetah how to navigate inhorizontal direction, crouch and jump. In addition, after each reflected strike, the robot returned to its original position on its own. For the test, gates 90 cm high and 150 cm wide were created. The strikes were carried out from a distance of 4 meters. One of the main success factors is the use of an external ball detection system.
