The second device - PixieDrone - will work inwater off the coast. It is designed to collect garbage near the coast, including at shallow depths, and can pick up up to 150 liters of small debris before it is carried far into the lake or sea. Both types of robot will be used at 18 popular vacation spots and beaches along the coast of Lake Erie.
According to representatives of the Council of the Region of the Greatlakes, a large number of environmental projects have been directed recently to protect the ocean from pollution, while inland waters are often forgotten. However, studies commissioned by the Council have shown that the concentration of microplastics in the Great Lakes is comparable to the level of pollution in the ocean.
