Russia has created a self-cleaning fabric to protect against germs and toxins

Scientists explained that materials with protectiveproperties are needed in a variety of industries, including medicine. Researchers wanted to create a fabric that would not only trap harmful agents, but also destroy them.

First, scientists introduced enzymes into the material,capable of hydrolyzing (and thereby neutralizing) a number of toxins, including organophosphate pesticides and waste products of microscopic fungi (mycotoxins).

Then the researchers added antibiotics to the material. As a result, they managed to achieve the almost complete destruction of microbes and toxins on the treated tissues.
