Russia to ban computer games that lead to "socially dangerous acts"

The Ministry of Economic Development sent a bill for approval to Roskomnadzor, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Digital Development,

involving amendments to Federal laws“On Information” and “On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health.” If the amendments are adopted, developers will be required to label games by age categories.

At the same time, it is proposed to ban the salegames that contain information prohibited for distribution in Russia. The authors of the bill believe that it is necessary to "ensure the safety of computer game content for the health of citizens", as well as to "prevent the commission of socially dangerous acts under the influence of game content."

It also notes that game developers shouldwill be based on the opinion and criteria of expert organizations when marking content. The Ministry of Digital Development will create a register of such institutions, and Roskomnadzor will prepare the criteria for their selection.

“The authors propose to oblige game developerscarry out age marking. Also, they should not allow “the use in game content of information prohibited for distribution in the Russian Federation,” the authors of the bill said in a statement.
