Russia wants to forcibly license Western films and games to fight piracy

A bill proposing compulsory licensing has been submitted to the State Duma for consideration.

films and other video products, games and books and music not available in Russia. Discuss

The author of the project, deputy Andrei Kuznetsov, is surethat the bill will help not only ensure Russians' access to "cultural values", but also help fight piracy. In his opinion, copyright owners abuse them too much, so compulsory licensing will help to combat this.

Such a measure can be applied “only to right holders from unfriendly countries or persons under their influence.”

At the same time, leading Russian video services do not agree with such an initiative, because they believe that this just legalizes piracy.
