Russia will ban registration in messengers without a passport

From March 1, 2022, all messengers operating in Russia will be required to register new

users only on the basis of current and verified passport data. Discuss

These rules are mandatory and come into force on March 12022 and will be valid for 6 years. The corresponding decree was signed by the Russian government on October 22. According to the document, all instant messengers operating in the Russian Federation are required to register new users based on passport data.

To do this, they will ask the userphone number and check it in the databases of the corresponding telecom operator. The operator is obliged to respond within 20 minutes, providing all the relevant information. Passport data are required.

If successful, the user will be assigned a unique identification code. If the operator does not find such data, or it turns out to be inaccurate, the messenger is obliged to refuse the user registration.

If later the user changes the phone number, he will be obliged to update the identification code.

The Internet has already suggested that when these rules come into force, foreign messengers may leave Russia because of disagreement with the new working conditions.
