Russia will introduce electronic passports from December 1, 2021

It has become known that electronic passports will be introduced in Russia on December 1 of this year. About it

reported in the decree of the Ministry of Digital Development.

So, in accordance with the document, Muscovites will be able tostart issuing and receiving electronic passports in early December. As for residents of other regions, they will be able to obtain electronic passports no later than July 1, 2023.

Note that the e-passport is froma plastic card equipped with a chip with data about a citizen. Including the chip will contain a photo and fingerprints. It is also planned to use a mobile application that will be used in Russia on a par with a regular passport. Perhaps other data will be introduced into the chip, for example, a driver's license.
