Russian scientists have found a way to speed up the search for doping in athletes

Russian scientists from Skoltech have found a way to speed up the search for doping in athletes. To standard procedures

they suggested adding two additional analyses.

To search for certain substances in a doping samplemass spectrometry is now used in athletes. Using this method, you can determine the presence of anabolic steroids, diuretics and even artificial testosterone in the blood or urine.

However, mass spectrometry alone cannot be used. It is necessary to compare the obtained data with databases of various compounds. However, there are too many of the latter. This complicates matters.

Scientists have proposed reducing the number of optionsconnections to search. For this, two additional analyzes based on the exchange reactions of light and heavy isotopes of hydrogen and light and heavy isotopes of oxygen are needed. Thanks to these analyzes, it is possible to obtain data on the structure of the molecule and use this to select the appropriate compounds.
