Russian security officials will gain access to the banking data of Russians without a court order

Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications Maksut Shadayev spoke witha proposal according to which in the future security forces will have to gain online access to various types of confidential data of Russians, which will include banking information and data stored by mobile operators. Today, such data is available only by court order.

Thus, Shadayev proposes to provide the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB andother law enforcement agencies will have direct access to personal confidential information of Russians by 2024. This is being done, according to the minister, as part of the development of the digital economy “in the interests of citizens, business” and government.

Recall that Maksut Shadaev replaced Mikhail Mishustin as head of the Ministry of Communications in January 2020. Previously, he served as vice president of digital platforms at Rostelecom and general director of RT Labs.
