Russians began to commit more crimes on the Internet

The Ministry of Internal Affairs told what crimes were the most common in Russia in 2019. As it turned out,

Russians began to commit 68.5% more crimes on the Internet.

Police reportedly recorded a sharp spike in cybercrimes in 2019. In total, 294.4 thousand offenses were committed using information and telecommunication technologies.

In general, in 2019, Russians committed 2.02 million crimes. This is only 1.6% more than in 2018. That is, the increase in the share of cybercrimes was much higher than all misdemeanors in total.

Theft was the most common crime in Russia last year. The police registered 774.2 thousand of such cases, 272.7 thousand of them were solved.
