Samsung blocks the activation of smartphones from “parallel import”

The refusal of the largest companies to supply smartphones and other gadgets to Russia led to the fact that

gray supplies from neighboring countries were launched,referred to as ” parallel import”. It turned out that some Samsung smartphones imported into the country in this way are simply impossible to activate: the devices require the installation of a SIM card from the country for which the device was originally intended. And it’s not easy to install, but also to use for some time, making calls. This was reported by the publication “Izvestia” with reference to retail sources. It is worth noting that such an approach is not new for Samsung: the company’s press service noted that such a policy has existed at the global level for many years.

Samsung technical support stated thatYou can unlock the device by visiting any of the company’s official service centers, but the procedure will cost 5,000 rubles and will take two weeks - that’s how long it takes to review the application and transfer the special regional unlock code to the service employees. It is reported that a similar problem occurs on 20% of Samsung smartphones imported by “parallel import” and does not apply to devices from Kazakhstan. In May alone, about 45-50 thousand Samsung devices entered Russia in this way, and they encountered “problematic” The device can be found in any showroom of large retail chains.
