Samsung Exynos 990: flagship 7-nanometer chip with integrated 5G modem and support for displays up to 120 Hz

Samsung has announced its new flagship processor - Exynos 990.

What is known

The novelty has become

an improved version of the Exynos 980 chip, whichshowed literally in early September. The processor is built on a 7nm EUV process (like the Kirin 990 5G). It received eight cores with three clusters: two “custom” 5th generation cores, two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55. It is unknown what frequency they operate on.

Exynos 990 comes bundled with graphicsMali-G77 MP11 accelerator, which increases performance by 20% compared to Mali-G76 MP12 in Exynos 9820. In addition, the new SoC is equipped with support for screens with frequencies up to 120 Hz, an improved NPU chip for processing AI tasks, and an updated DSP module , LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.0/UFS 2.1, as well as a built-in new 5G modem Exynos 5123. According to Samsung, it supports download speeds of up to 7.35 Gbps in the mmWave range and 5.1 Gbps in sub-6GHz.

When to expect

Mass production of the Samsung Exynos 990 chip will begin at the end of this year. This processor will most likely be the first to receive the flagship line of Galaxy S11 smartphones.
