Samsung Exynos 990: flagship 7-nanometer chip with integrated 5G modem and support for displays up to 120 Hz

The novelty has become

an improved version of the Exynos 980 chip, whichshowed literally in early September. The processor is built on the EUV 7-nanometer process technology (like the Kirin 990 5G). He received eight cores with three clusters: two “custom” 5th generation cores, two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55. What frequency they work on is unknown.

Exynos 990 comes bundled with graphicsthe Mali-G77 MP11 accelerator, which increases performance by 20% compared to the Mali-G76 MP12 in the Exynos 9820. In addition, the new SoC is equipped with support for screens up to 120 Hz, an improved NPU chip for processing AI tasks, and an updated DSP module , LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.0 / UFS 2.1 memory and the built-in new 5G-modem Exynos 5123. According to Samsung, it supports download speeds of up to 7.35 Gbit / s in the range of mmWave and 5.1 Gbit / s in sub-6GHz.

When to expect

Mass production of the Samsung Exynos 990 chip will begin later this year. This processor is likely to be the first to receive the flagship Galaxy S11 smartphone lineup.
