Samsung fined $9.7 million for false Galaxy waterproof ad

Water resistance of smartphones has long been a headache for manufacturers: on the one hand, it is a convenient feature,

which fans love so much, and on the other hand, durabilitygadgets to water has many limitations and caveats. Therefore, it is very important not to overdo it with loud advertising materials, as Samsung did in the period from 2016 to 2018, for which it will now be forced to pay a large fine. In Australia, the trial, which started back in 2019, has ended. In videos and posters of those years, Samsung showed that smartphones could be used in swimming pools and even sea water.

But, as you know, salty and chlorinated water, andAlso, impacts with water often cause drowning of waterproof gadgets (smartphones, watches, action cameras). Such advertising, which “became a key criterion for choosing these particular Galaxy smartphones,” became the reason for a fine of $9.7 million. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that the situation concerns only advertising of older Galaxy models (A5, A7, S7, S8, Note 8). But this does not mean that the new models have become more reliable - only the approach to advertising has changed, which has become more careful.
