The main purpose of this option is to save the batteryfrom premature failure. Many studies conducted in recent years have shown that charging a lithium battery to its full capacity will not extend its life in the long term. Overcharging to 100% increases the load on the battery, which shortens its service life and reduces battery life from a single charge. Therefore, Protect Battery sets a charge limit of 85% - the battery will not charge beyond this mark.
It is not yet clear whether regular Samsung smartphones will also receive the function, or whether it will remain exclusive to foldable gadgets and tablets from the South Korean manufacturer.
