Samsung ISOCELL JN1: a compact 50MP sensor for low-cost smartphones

Samsung has announced its new camera sensor for low-cost devices.

called ISOCELL JN1 and this, according to the company,The smallest 50-megapixel sensor on the market. The size of one pixel is only 0.64 microns. Thanks to these dimensions, smartphone manufacturers can greatly reduce the camera protrusion or even get rid of it completely. The new product can be used as the main sensor in budget devices or as a front sensor in flagships.

ISOCELL JN1 improved by 16%light sensitivity compared to the previous 48-megapixel sensor and Tetrapixel technology. It allows you to combine four pixels into one large one with a size of 1.28 microns. This format produces photographs with reduced noise and a resolution of up to 12.8 MP. In addition, ISOCELL JN1 supports Smart ISO and Double Super PDAF technology. The sensor can shoot 4K video at 60 fps or Full HD at 240 fps.

When to expect

Samsung has already started mass production of ISOCELL JN1. The first smartphones with it will be released in the near future.
