Samsung unveils prototype stretchable OLED patch with built-in heart rate monitor

Scientists from Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) have presented a prototype of a stretchable OLED screen that

You can stick it on your body and use it instead of a fitness tracker.

What is known

The device is a patch withbuilt-in heart rate monitor. The gadget is made of a highly elastic polymer compound and a modified elastomer. This material, according to engineers, can withstand up to 30% elongation of the skin. In addition, tests have shown that even after 1000 stretches, the patch remains in working order.

The gadget is glued to the lower part of the wrist. Thanks to its tight fit to the body, it reads the pulse better than the same smart bracelets. In the future, engineers also want to connect other sensors to it to track health indicators.

Naturally, development is still underwayThe technology is in its early stages and scientists still have a lot of work to do before releasing it to the market. Presumably, such a gadget could be used in medicine. For example, to monitor the condition of infants or patients with severe illnesses.
