February 16, 2009 Samsung introduced the Blue Earth smartphone with a solar panel and eco-friendly features.
This
a full-fledged smartphone based on Android, but itthe body was made from recycled plastic bottles. To save energy, Samsung made special software that adjusts the screen brightness and also turns off Bluetooth, 3G, and Wi-Fi modules if the battery charge is critically low. In addition, Blue Earth had a function for calculating carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere based on data on the number of steps taken. Alas, solar panels in smartphones did not catch on and this model, like those of other companies, was only a demonstration that Samsung cares about the environment.
