Samsung Display will reportedly focus on OLED and QD (Quantum Dot) panels. All employees who were involved in the production of LCD panels will be transferred to the QD business.
Previous reports from Display Supply Chain Consultantsshowed that the price of an LCD is now 36.6% of the price that was fixed in January 2014. This is in no small part because manufacturers such as China's BOE and Taiwan's AU Optronics have offered lower prices to customers.
Initially, Samsung planned to close the lostprofitability of the LCD business in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing need for affordable home entertainment devices, the company decided to postpone this important step.
